We got our first snow recently so now I'm in full-on winter mode. I've been having an especially hard time this year with the sun setting so early. I keep crawling into bed without looking at the time, only to realize that it's barely 6pm. This time of year certainly makes me miss living in Florida. Unfortunately I can't spend the winter in Maine curled up on the beach, but here are a few things that help make the winter a bit more bearable for me.

maine winter essentials, new england blog

  1. NYX Cosmetics Epic Ink Liner- Having waterproof eyeliner is especially important for me during the winter, because when it's cold outside my eyes water like nobody's business. I haven't had the best luck with NYX's eyeliner in the past, but I picked this up at Target one day after I finally had to throw away my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. This liner stays on all day, is super pigmented, and is a great price.
  2. Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara- Again, I'm all about waterproof eye makeup during the winter. Especially when it's freezing outside and I can't be bothered to put anything but mascara on.
  3. Essential oil diffuser- I am absolutely obsessed. To give myself a boost in the morning or afternoon I diffuse lemon & peppermint essential oils and at night I usually stick to lavender. It's just such an easy way make myself feel a little better, more relaxed, or more energized. Plus, with how dry it is during the winter I can get a bit uncomfortable but this adds a little humidity back into the air.
  4. Stash Tea- I don't know why, but as soon as there's snow on the ground I switch from coffee to tea. Usually I have one cup of coffee per day, but with tea...I usually lose count of how many cups of tea I've had in a day. Growing up, Stash Tea was a staple in my house because of the low prices and huge selection. Luckily for me, multiple local stores carry a pretty decent range of their teas-- I always leave with at least 5 boxes.
  5. L.L. Bean Cotton Ragg Camp Socks- These socks are so simple, yet so awesome. They're thin, so they don't feel uncomfortable when you wear them with shoes, but they also keep my feet nice and warm. They're just so soft and comfy!
  6. Onesies/kigurumi-  My house is pretty much always cold thanks to an archaic heating system, so if I'm at home, I'm wearing one of these. These are so insanely comfortable and warm, I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner.
  7. Smith's Rosebud Salve-  Another product that I've been using for almost my whole life. This smells amazing, lasts for a very long time, and can be used on lips and even dry hands or elbows. If you'd rather have it in a tube instead of a tin, you're in luck
  8. Dr. Martens vegan 1460 boots- These are always what I'm wearing when I'm out and about. They're roomy enough for thick socks, my feet always stay dry in them, and they're slip resistant-- which is very important for my clumsy self.
  9. Lush Cosmetics Lord of Misrule Shower Cream-  No surprise here. This is one of my favorite scents ever and it's perfect for winter since it's such a warm smell. It leaves my skin so soft and it's just great for a little pampering when I'm feeling grumpy about the cold.
  10. TONYMOLY Panda's Dream So Cool Eyestick-  This is one of my more recent discoveries and it's become part of my daily routine. This is a serum stick to apply around your eyes. It claims to help with puffiness, which I don't have issues with, and fine lines which...well, I may be starting to get those. But the reason I bought this was because it's very cooling and feels so refreshing when applied. After being outside in the cold air, this provides some relief. Also, that packaging!
  11. L.L. Bean Daybreak Scuffs-  These are my favorite shoes of all time. They are so incredibly comfortable, keep my feet warm, and they also have an anti-slip rubber sole. I used to feel weird wearing shoes in my house but now I feel weird if I'm not wearing these. I'm not the only one who loves them-- my mom and my husband each have a pair, too.
  12. Fleece-lined footed tights- On days when it's ridiculously cold and I need an extra layer or just when I'm determined to wear a dress despite the cold, fleece-lined tights are my savior. These are a staple in my wardrobe.
  13. L.L. Bean Flannel Duvet Cover- I'm pro-flannel everything. I've had my flannel duvet cover for a couple years now and it's great for extra warmth and softness.
  14. Threshold Flannel Sheets- Obviously, I love L.L. Bean's flannel products but when it comes to sheets, I think I'll stick with Target. Target's flannel sheets are much more affordable, which is good for me because I like to have multiple sets to rotate.

  1. My eyes are the same too. I'm always really conscious of the fact it looks like I'm crying in the supermarket if I walk there. I have the same Doc Martens too - I love that you can wear super snuggly socks in them too.

  2. I desperately need to get myself a onesie - I keep saying it, but I need to actually make it happen
