August 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag review

The August Ipsy Glam Bag theme was "Good Vibes Only," and was all about being positive, thankful, and well...good vibes. This bag came in three different colors with three different phrases. I wasn't a fan of any of the bag designs. More specifically, I think they would have been much better without the cheesy, overdone phrases, but that's just me. So much for being positive, huh? Let's talk about what really matters-- the contents of the bag.

August 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag review

1. MAKE UP FOR EVER Excessive Lash Arresting Volume Mascara, $25-  I don't know if I got a dud or if this mascara is just really crappy. I had to apply a ton of coats before it even started to do anything, and it didn't do much. It didn't lift my eyelashes at all and barely made them look more voluminous. It all kind of sat at the base of my lashes and didn't coat the whole length of them. And on my bottom lashes-- ugh. It was so clumpy and dried so quickly, I was barely able to fix it with a spooly. I'll pass.

2. theBalm Cosmetics Voyage Vol. 2 Eyeshadow in Kuwakaribisha (currently only available in the Voyage 2 Palette), $39.50- This is a shimmery, light peachy shade and is so pretty. It's great as a highlight or an allover shadow when I'm feeling kinda lazy with my makeup. It's such a nice color and very versatile.

3. AURORA Pro Color Corrector in Pistachio, $8-  I usually use NYX's green color corrector, which I have to be very careful with. If I accidentally apply a tiniest bit too much, I end up looking like the Wicked Witch of the West. When using this product, I went in with caution but I was surprised to see how well it blended and covered red spots on my skin. I could go ham with this stuff and it would still blend out. I'm so pleased with it and I think I'm going to buy a full size tube. It just makes covering red spots so easy. It's great to not have to worry about turning my whole face green.

4. SLMissGlam T35 Precision Blending Brush- I can't seem to find this exact brush or a price for it anywhere, but oh well. I love this little brush, it's fluffy but not too fluffy so it's easy to work with and makes blending super easy. It's cute, works well, and the bristles are cruelty free!

5. Secret Key Nature Recipe Sheet Mask in Honey and Tea Tree-  Another product that I couldn't find a price for, but I'm sure it isn't over $7 for each one. Unlike many other sheet masks, this one actually does smell like the scent/formula. You know how all TONYMOLY sheet masks smell the same no matter the formula? These ones had distinct smells. Anyway, I loved these sheet masks. They smelled great, very very hydrating, and my face felt great afterwards.

Ipsy has also been making some changes lately. Members used to be able to review products on their website as soon as their bags were marked as delivered, but now Ipsy requires more time after delivery. My bag was delivered on the 9th, but I am not able to send in my reviews until the 23rd-- I think it's a great idea. This will hopefully cut down on impulsive reviews and thus product reviews on the Ipsy website might be more accurate and thorough from now on. We'll see!

Ipsy Shopper cash back
Ipsy also announced this month that they have started a new cash back program for members only called Ipsy Shopper. You can receive cash back via PayPal or check for purchases from brands like NYX, Luxie, Eyeko, and many more. I haven't tried this out yet because I'm pretty dedicated to using Ebates for easy cash back, but maybe I'll start comparing Ebates and Ipsy Shopper to see who gives the best percentage back. Don't forget that to use Ipsy Shopper you have to be an Ipsy member and then download the Ipsy Shopper app.

Have you tried any of these products? Are you excited about Ipsy Shopper? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I'm so happy to hear that the color corrector worked out well for you. I have in my bag this month and I'm a wee bit nervous how to work it. I'm getting a the Balm shadow and I'm hoping it works. I have a very hit or miss relationship with that brand

  2. I'm sad to hear about your mascara not turning out so well for you. I hope you did get that one rare dud rather than have a terrible product! I'm glad the color corrector turned out great for you as well. It's terrible when you have to turn your whole face green before applying foundation! I am kind of liking the idea of waiting before reviewing products. I'm sure some people weren't giving actual reviews after using the products so the time in between makes it so they have a chance to test it. (:

  3. It's a shame that the mascara didn't perform. Sometimes it happens. That shadow by The Balm is gorgeous though. It's definitely something I would use a ton. I used to be obsessed with Urban Decay's Sin, and I'm always drawn to similar shades.
