2017 Goals

new years resolutions 2017

I don't really have any New Years Resolutions, just goals that I constantly work towards all the time, so my "resolutions" don't really change much. However I have a few goals that I'm very serious about this year. Adventure with Spencer more, interact with people more, and declutter my house.

One of my first posts on this blog was my Maine to-do list, in which I listed 11 places in Maine I wanted to visit by 2017. I only crossed 2 places off that list this year: Acadia National Park and Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. But now we're armed with a state park pass so hopefully this spring we'll see more of the state. And maybe this summer I'll brave the most tourist-crowded areas and finally go whale watching. Maybe.

I am terrible at answering my phone, texting back, reading messages, replying to comments (I read & appreciate them!), tweeting back, and just plain keeping in touch with people. I always have been, but I've been worse about it for the past couple years. I don't know why but I know I need to stop. I made a breakthrough and posted on Facebook for the first time in months the other day! I shared a meme about pizza. Baby steps, y'all.

The past few weeks have made me realize exactly how ready I am to not live in my current home anymore. I won't bore you with (all) the details, but basically...
  • Part of my house flooded 3 days before Christmas and the issue isn't fixed quite yet.
  • The porcupine that has been living under my porch for the past few months (I've named her Lisa) has now started climbing things, making her presence even more irritating. Apparently it somehow costs $500 to relocate a porcupine so Spencer and I are probably going to figure it out ourselves.
  • The road to my house has been so incredibly icy lately, and even with my snow tires and all-wheel drive, I still slip all around and almost slid into a tree one day. Being snowed iced in to my house is pretty frustrating.
That kinda just scratches the surface, but I am over living here. Spencer and I would love to buy a house, like right this second, but I don't think we will be anytime soon. That doesn't mean we can't start preparing. By that I mean I'm getting rid of a ton of stuff to make our next move a lot smoother than the last. I have so many clothes that I've never worn or only worn once or twice, but kept them because "I might want it a few years from now." My closest is burstin', which is why I recently listed a ton of stuff on Depop and plan to use Depop a lot more in the future.

Speaking of adventuring with Spencer, we finally visited Stephen King's house in Bangor last week. The house next door to his is currently for sale...I'm tempted!

  1. $500 to relocate a porcupine?! Sheesh! Good luck managing that yourself - but totally worth it since they are adorable and just as scared as you (if not more!)

    Mindful Rambles

    1. Yup, the guy actually said a "minimum of $500." We don't have animal control here, so I guess they charge whatever they want :/ I'm going to miss the little porcupine when she's gone, she is *very* cute (I mean, I named her! I'm attached.) But she keeps trying to climb our fence and I can foresee my very friendly & curious dog getting quilled 😰
