Life Lately + Link Love #7

Life Lately:

September was supposed to be a relaxing, not-so-busy month but it's been pretty darn busy and feels like it's going on forever. But let's talk about positive things! Spencer and I finally visited Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, near the Canadian border, and it was absolutely amazing. I love it there so, so much. We also visited the Schoodic Peninsula portion of Acadia National Park for the first time on our first wedding anniversary, which was the 17th. There's another positive thing, Spencer and I have been married for a year now which is pretty darn cool.

This month was awesome because I finally saw some roadside attractions that have been on my list for such a long time, and randomly came across a couple new ones, too. You can see some on my Instagram and in my post about Schoodic. More are coming, maybe in a blog post? We'll see.

Spencer's parents also came for a kinda-surprise visit. Unfortunately Spencer was away for work almost the whole time they were here, but I tagged along on some of their outings. One of my favorite outings was going to Nina June with them. Nina June made Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurants in America list for 2017 and I had been wanting to go for quite a while, but some Google reviews were deterring me. I'm so glad that I went, the service was great, the view from the patio of Rockport Harbor was beautiful, and the risotto was amazing. So was the chocolate torte that I had for dessert. I left Nina June feeling very full and kinda gross, but in a satisfied way.

Another outing I loved: hiking with my in-laws' dogs, Olivia and Poppy. They're both so freakin' cute! Olivia is about 13 years old so I've known her for quite a while and it was so good to see her again-- Spencer and I missed her! This was our first time meeting Poppy. She's a typical crazy puppy, but so sweet.

Link Love:

  • Anne shared a great post that I totally relate to about being shy but still sharing her life online.
  • Obviously I love kitschy roadside attractions, and I've added this one to my list. Alexandra visited the world's largest cuckoo clock in Ohio and how cool is it?! This whole town looks awesome, really.
  • Rosie covered what you can do to reduce microplastics in your water because chances are, they're there.
  • I loved this post from Amber about confidence and pixie cuts.
  • This post from Kallie about using local hashtags on Instagram to your advantage is super helpful, especially since lately Instagram has been shadowbanning people for using those super-general aesthetic hashtags.
  • Monika wrote a great post about being a supportive fan of someone, not a passive one.
  • Anna interviewed the owner of Lemon & Tulips, a new flower shop in Fryeburg, where I lived a couple years ago. This shop is seriously adorable and the arrangements are beautiful.

Has anything especially awesome been going on in your life lately? What posts have you loved recently? Tell me in the comments!

  1. It sounds like you had a great month, and those doggies are so adorable! I wish I could pet them through the internet!
Thank you for sharing my blog post, I had a great (and slightly horrifying) time researching and writing it.
I've just started my masters, which is really exciting. We're settling into a new city as well and are just about getting our bearings.
