Owl's Head

I've been a little quiet lately because I've been snowed in quite a lot, meaning I've been bored and uninspired quite a lot. Yesterday the weather was decent-ish and Spencer and I were determined to get out and explore. Our initial plan was to head to the top of Mount Battie, where we were married, but the auto road was closed. I can't blame them, it's probably a pain in the butt to plow. After a little bit of defeated wandering, we ended up at Owl's Head State Park.

Owl's Head State Park is located near Rockland and is home to Owl's Head Light, an operational lighthouse that was opened in 1825. Oh, and it may or may not be haunted. The park was completely empty, but that was no surprise since it was 30 degrees, colder with the windchill, and snow was on its way. We parked in one of the few parking spots that wasn't covered in snow and walked for about 5 minutes till we reached the lighthouse. It was a short walk, but the cold made it seem much further!

We didn't go all the way to the top of the lighthouse because the steps were pretty icy and we were in no mood to fall and knock our teeth out. We stayed by the lighthouse and enjoyed the view for only a minute or so before we power-walked back down the steps to the trail. I didn't want to leave so quickly, but my lips and fingers were starting to go numb.

We couldn't make it down near the beach this time, but now we know this is definitely a place to come back to when the snow melts!

Do you do any outdoor exploring in the winter? What about ghosts, real or nah?

  1. Ah, it looks so wonderfully cold and beautiful by the sea. I love the stairs up the lighthouse. Looks dreamy. Ghosts? Nah.
