Our Camden, Maine Wedding

camden maine wedding

After months of planning a big wedding (and when I say big, I mean we were planning for 40 guests in attendance) Spencer and I switched gears and opted for a small, casual ceremony on Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park. Here's a few glimpses.

I planned to spend the night before my wedding relaxing. We were going to check into our bed & breakfast at 4, I was going to paint my nails, put a sheet mask on, and go to bed by 9.

Ha.

Since we opted to self-cater our wedding reception and hold it at our house, we and our many helpers were cooking and cleaning till 11. I probably only sat down for 10 minutes the day before our wedding. Spencer and I crawled into bed that night, sore and exhausted. We woke up sore and exhausted the next morning, but excited and anxious.

While getting ready for my wedding, I realized I had somehow forgotten to bring a hairbrush, but thankfully had a travel-size brush in my purse. I had forgotten my favorite eyebrow pencil and on my way to the wedding I forgot to grab my flowers and Spencer had to run back and get them. I also managed to nearly glue my eyelids shut when putting on false lashes. I was completely scatter-brained. However, I managed to sneak out of the busy B&B without anyone seeing me and making a fuss, so I gave myself a high-five for that.

We did something a little different with our wedding. Spencer's dad officiated the wedding, but since he isn't a Maine resident he couldn't officially pronounce us married. Luckily, we found a local minister just a few days before who came to officially pronounce us.

It was super weird showing up to a park in a flouncy dress when everyone else there was in casual hiking clothes. Spencer and I are both uncomfortable with being the center of attention, so we were a little worried about having our wedding in such a public place. If you've ever been to Camden, you probably know how annoyingly jam-packed with tourists it is during the summer. We tried to schedule our wedding for the time of year we wanted, but also when there hopefully wouldn't be too many tourists around. Our wedding did attract a little crowd, but it mostly dispersed once the ceremony began. The people who stayed behind to watch kept their distance and were quiet and respectful. Plus, after the wedding I got to meet some cute dogs.

Our wedding was small, heartfelt, funny (thanks to Spencer's dad inserting a quote from Jerry Seinfeld), and it was an absolutely beautiful day. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding ceremony.

After the wedding we went back to our house for the reception which included lots of eating, playing croquet, and I finally got to sit down! Olivia the dachshund also made a special appearance and stole the show.

The wedding planning was all very stressful and I would be lying if I said Spencer and I didn't consider eloping dozens of times, but our wedding brought our loved ones together for the first time in a long time, and I'm so thankful for that. No one who attended our wedding lives in Maine and it had been so long since we had seen our family. For example, I hadn't seen my youngest sister, Alena, in 3 years.

I put off posting this for a while because I felt like I needed to make a big, romantic statement about life being so weird and I'm so lucky, etc. I mean, that's what people do in these types of posts, right? Whenever I tried to write something along those lines I just started getting carried away, telling my life story, thinking about how much we love each other, crying, and deleting everything. So forget it. I tried.

In case you missed the wedding style post, here's some outfit details. Most of the things we wore are sold out now, but I've linked some similar items.

  1. Omg!! So, I've tried to comment on your posts before, but I never could! It always said I needed to put in my Livejournal info even though I didn't use that option lol. Anyway, I tried your website in Chrome & it works just fine :)) YAY! anyway, just wanted to say your wedding was intimate & beautiful.
