Review: Lean Greens

Lately I've really been trying to get healthier not only because of my upcoming wedding, but because well, why wouldn't I want to be healthier? I've been eating more raw veggies and less frozen pizza, drinking more water and less sugary lattes. I've tried lots of "green drinks" in the past which tasted like grass and I never touched them again. Frankly, I was concerned that Lean Greens might be another one of those products, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I've been using this product every morning for the past few weeks, mixing one slightly heaped spoonful of the powder into a glass of cold water as the label suggests. Along with multiple greens, it also has blueberry extract, black currant seed oil, and stevia to sweeten it up a bit. All I really taste when I drink this is a light blueberry flavor that isn't too sweet or overpowering. Usually with products like this one, I think to myself "just drink it and get it over with!" but that thought didn't cross my mind with Lean Greens. I also mixed it into smoothies a few times for a little extra boost.

The only thing I don't like is that it has stevia in it, just because I personally am not a fan of the taste. But I could hardly taste the stevia, so it wasn't really a problem for me. Overall I am very happy with this product. It tastes good, helps to incorporate more greens into my diet, and gives me a boost in the morning which is great since I'm trying to cut down on coffee.

Lean Greens is available on Amazon and you can get 15% off with the promo code "BULLET15"!

My Wedding Registry Essentials

No shade to my beloved IKEA, but it's time for some upgrades. I moved out of my parent's house when I was 18 so IKEA has been my savior since then. But look at me now, I'm almost 24 and I'm getting married soon. Spencer and I have been living together for a while and although we have almost all the essentials, most of them are leftover cheap essentials from our college years.

My initial plan was to have an Etsy registry, a Bed Bath & Beyond registry, and a Pottery Barn registry. Managing three registries was a pain in the butt and I knew it would be confusing for others, too. Instead, we're using Zola for our wedding registry, which I was kind of iffy about at first since I hadn't really heard of it before. But oh man, I love it. Not only did I get a $25 credit from the site that referred me, their selection is incredible and I can add items from other sites. Plus, I was able to add a group gift that lets people contribute whatever amount they want to a house down payment fund for us.

The most important items on my registry are:
  1. Yeah, you guessed it. A KitchenAid stand mixer. My favorite colors are Bay Leaf, Boysenberry, Pistachio, and Pink. Spencer and I agreed on Bay Leaf.
  2. Pyrex everything! Pyrex bakeware, mixing bowls, storage.
  3. Plates! While I have a set of beautiful hand-painted Polish pottery, I reserve that for special occasions. My "everyday plates" are scratched and are pretty hideous. I love Royal Doulton's Colours place settingSpencer and I agreed on the green set, though I love all the colors.
And a couple frivolous things I didn't add to the registry because I knew people would roll their eyes at them:
  1. This cute little turtle trinket box.
  2. A resin faux-taxidermy deer head.
  3. The cutest ring holder I've ever seen.
If you click this link and create a Zola registry, you'll get a $50 store credit! So buy yourself the adorable turtle trinket box.

5 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Not only is Mother's Day coming up, but so is my mom's birthday. May is a very good month for my mom, present-wise. Shopping for my mom can be so difficult because when I ask her what she'd like she usually says "tea towels and picture frames" or "books and candles." She won't even specify what kind of book and she is incredibly picky about candles, she either loves them or thinks they smell like cat pee.

Last year I was completely out of ideas. I wandered around Target for hours before an idea finally hit me. I remembered that when I was in Kindergarten I was given the prompt "What are you going to give your mother for Mother's Day?" and I answered "a new bra" and included a drawing of a lacey white bra. My mom and my teacher got a real kick out of that. I texted my sister, "this may be weird, but can you please find out what bra size mom wears?" and 15 minutes later I left Target with a new bra for my mom. 17 years later, I finally delivered!

If your mom or mother figure is as hard to shop for as mine is, here are a few little ideas for you. Or, ya know, you could get her a new bra.

Exploring: Franconia Notch State Park

It's finally warming up in New England after (what I'm told was) a mild winter. Spencer, Theo, and I headed an hour west to Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire on Saturday to do a little exploring. Since we had Theo with us, we couldn't go to Flume Gorge since they don't allow dogs there, which was disappointing but there's always next time! Instead we went to The Basin

It was absolutely beautiful there! There were lots of little waterfalls and pools, and the walk to The Basin itself was easy. We walked beyond the paved path around The Basin and found a trail to another larger waterfall that I didn't catch the name of. At first Theo was pretty anxious, I think he thought we were going to give him a bath, but he eventually calmed down and tried to jump in the water a couple times.

I think Theo was quite moved by the natural beauty of The Basin...or maybe he was just tired from the hike.

I had to take a picture of this because it's the most green I've seen since September. I can't wait for more blooms and blossoms.

Spencer and I recently got Fitbits and according to mine, I climbed the equivalent of 47 flights of stairs. Not too shabby.

Days like this make me even more thankful to live in beautiful New England and I'm so thankful to have Spencer and Theo to explore with!

What are some of your favorite outdoor places to explore? Tell me in the comments!

Exploring: Chocorua Lake

Mount Chocorua

Spencer is getting into fly fishing so yesterday we set out to find a place where he could catch a rainbow trout or two. There are tons of great fishing spots along the Saco River, which is pretty close to our house, but all the access areas are privately owned and therefore nearly impossible to go to for free. Spencer asked the owner of a local fly fishing store where to go and he pointed us to Chocorua Lake in Tamworth, New Hampshire.

Mount Chocorua

Chocorua Lake is very close to the popular tourist destination, North Conway, it's just a little more tucked away than other local attractions. Mount Chocorua reflects over the lake, and honestly no photos do it justice. The area is very well taken care of by the Chocorua Lake Conservancy and has lots of benches and rocks to sit on by the water. Spencer was fishing for about an hour and since fishing is about as interesting to me as stamp collecting, I sat by the water reading and admiring the view. I also saw a cute little otter swim by! Unfortunately for Spencer, he didn't catch any fish but at least we found a beautiful place to visit again in the future!

Mom does Maine

My mom is the coolest. My mom lives in Florida. I live in Maine. Our houses are exactly 1,497 miles (or 2,409 kilometers) apart. After 7 months without seeing each other, my mom finally came to visit me this past week and it was also her first time in Maine (and New Hampshire since I live right on the border), or the New England region for that matter.

The first day we stayed in the area and showed my mom around Fryeburg, the town where I live, and North Conway, New Hampshire which is the next town over where pretty much everything is, since Fryeburg is so tiny. We also drove up in the White Mountain National Forest, but unfortunately couldn't drive up Mount Washington since the weather is still so cold--especially up there!

The second day, we went to the L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport. My mom is a fellow L.L. Bean -lover and was freaking out, especially over their wonderful home store. I was freaking out, because I finally saw the "Bootmobile"! I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed about how excited I was about this thing, but I've been trying to get my picture in front of it for years to no avail. I'm a big, L.L. Bean-loving dork. Whatever.

We spent the third day around North Conway again. Mom went a little overboard at our local L.L. Bean outlet and we got pizza at one of our favorite spots, Flatbread Pizza Company. Then we went on a little hike at Diana's Baths, one of my favorite places in the area.

This would have been a great picture of my mom...if only I hadn't forgotten to take my macro lens off.

Then we headed to one of my favorite towns in Maine, Camden. My mom was drooling over all the adorable houses in Camden and we checked out all the cute stores, including my favorite, Jo Ellen Designs. Then we headed up Mount Battie and showed mom one of my favorite views in Maine. It's prettier in the summer, but still pretty great.

Mom got this cute 'lil shot of Spencer and I walking down the street in downtown Camden...I think she was just trying to photograph the sign, though.
The next day my mom was starting to feel sick, so we took it easy at my house and my dog, Theo, finally stopped jumping all over her and finally just laid down and cuddled with her. It only took 5 days for Theo to cool his jets. 5 freakin' days.

By the time we dropped my mom off at the airport, she was full-blown sick and miserable. Hopefully that won't deter her from returning to Maine!
